Kate is an Associate at the Townscape Consultancy and is an urban designer with 10 years’ experience in the Townscape and Heritage field. Kate has studied both architecture and urban design; with a master’s thesis focused on the value of industrial heritage, exploring themes of place identity and questions of authenticity in urban design.

Kate’s professional experience has involved design collaboration, aesthetic analysis and quality assessment of architectural designs as supporting statements for planning applications. The focus being critical analysis and assessment of development proposals, where quality of design must be balanced against impact on historical settings. Kate joined TTC in August 2021 and is responsible for providing advice as part of the wider design and planning project teams and writing townscape and heritage assessments for a wide range of development proposals, primarily in London. Kate has also been involved in contributing to the evidence base for the emerging City Plan working in collaboration with the City of London Corporation.

 

Past Projects:

  • IQLN Stratford – a proposal for 6 tall buildings in Stratford, stitching together the metropolitan centre and the East Village, designed by Dutch architectural practice, Mecanoo. Client: Hadley Property Group.
  • City of London Local Plan – Tall buildings evidence base including a Strategic Visual Assessment and Heritage Impact Assessments of the Tower of London World Heritage Site and St. Paul’s Cathedral for the City of London Corporation.
  • 21 Lombard Street, City of London – a retrofit and extension scheme for a post-modern office building within the Bank Conservation Area, designed by Woods Bagot. Client: Ivanhoe Cambridge with CORE
  • 27 Saville Row – redevelopment of the former police station, designed by PLP architects, to provide a new office led development that would better respond to context of the north end of Savile Row and Regent Street and provide ground floor uses that compliment the activity of Savile Row. The scheme would also provide a new home to the London Academy of Bespoke. Client: Henigman
  • 101 Bayham Street – a sensitive refurbishment and extension of a 1930s warehouse within the Camden Town Conservation Area design by Henley Halebrown. Client: RailPen.
  • 300 Gray’s Inn Road – a retrofit and extension of an office building within the Bloomsbury Conservation Area designed by Haptic architects. Client: Beltane and Topland.
  • Meridian Steps, LB Camden – a 41-storey student accommodation building in the metropolitan centre of Stratford, designed by BDP architects. Client: Unite Students.
  • Uplands Business Park, LB Waltham Forest – a hybrid application of a comprehensive mixed-use development in Blackhorse Lane, designed by Allies and Morrison. Client: Blackrock and Neat Development.
  • Abbey Road, LB Camden – Phase 3 of the Abbey Estate regeneration design by Pollard Thomas Edwards. Client: London Borough of Camden.
