Lewis is a Townscape and Heritage Consultant with over 25 years’ experience. He has worked for some of the most respected heritage and townscape consultancy practices in London, as well as in a local authority context. He has worked on numerous tall building applications, identifying key elements of the setting and significance of heritage assets that could be affected, establishing appropriate views, contributing to design development, advocating for schemes with consultees, and producing Heritage, Townscape and Visual Impact Assessment (HTVIA) reports. He has written reports to support applications for Certificates of Immunity from Listing, and has advised on Listed Building Consent applications for both householders and major companies. He has also produced representations for clients in response to local council plan making, and was part of the team which produced the London View Management Framework SPG for Mayor Livingstone in 2004-5 and updated it for Mayor Johnson in 2008-9. Lewis also acts as an Expert Witness for sensitive projects at Appeal.

 

Past Projects:

  • 47-50 Mark Lane, City of London – Redevelopment of a 6 storey building in a sensitive location close to the Tower of London World Heritage Site, with a contemporary new building of 12 storeys.
  • 1 Museum Street, LB Camden – Redevelopment of a complicated site including tall building elements and listed buildings, set partly within the Bloomsbury Conservation Area.
  • Leegate Shopping Centre, LB Lewisham – A major regeneration project with tall elements close to the settings of numerous designated and non-designated heritage assets.
  • Whitechapel Estate, LB Tower Hamlets – Substantial redevelopment of a large estate partly within three conservation areas, replacing existing buildings on site to make way for new mixed-use buildings.
  • 5-10 Great Tower Street, City of London – upward extension of a 20th Century commercial building adjacent to heritage assets including a Grade I listed church and conservation area.
  • Union Place, Worthing – Regenerative town centre redevelopment providing both residential and commercial space within the setting of numerous heritage assets.
