A large mixed use project on the site of the former Middlesex Hospital in Fitzrovia. New build office and apartment buildings with retail units at ground floor level surround a new landscaped courtyard that incorporates the restored hospital chapel, a listed building. The rebuilding of a complete urban block with a group of substantial new buildings represented an unusually large development for London’s West End. The project needed to create a coherent piece of city while responding to a varied and established townscape context.
