Abell and Cleland, City of Westminster

City of Westminster

Two substantial masonry-clad residential blocks face each other across John Islip Street, close to Tate Britain.  The exoskeleton expression of the facades lend substance and provide an interstitial zone for balconies.    The varied geometry on a change of alignment in the street responds to that of the Baroque church of St John Smith Square seen at the end of the street.
