Thoresby House

London Borough of Hackney

A new 12 storey building providing student accommodation replaces an early 20th century nurses home. The wider context includes several recent tall buildings but the local context was lower; the new building represented a jump in scale; and the planning authority considered that the existing building on the site was a non-designated heritage asset. The townscape assessment report was important in making the case that the proposal was of high quality and appropriate to its surroundings.
